Ipad Sketches

I really was not sure about getting an Ipad until I found sketchbook pro. The next day I went out and bought one, immediately loaded up sketchbook pro and tried it out. I godda say, this is what I have been waiting for for a loooong time. Something like the ipad + sketchbook pro. Really feels like a digital sketchbook. Fingers do get a bit tired after a while but have tracked down the Pogo Sketch stylus, should be arriving this week. Here are my first two sketches.

Really looking forward to trying out the stylus and getting a few more done.

This was created for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy show in Singapore.

I created two Babefish, one was young and not so bright and cost very little since it could not translate so many languages. The other on the other hand was old and smart and could speak many universal languages making it much more expensive!

Bladebot

I created this guy last year, I forgot to upload him here. He was for an exhibition themed "inspired by bladerunner." Again made with clay, the dead android is one of those wooden people you buy from art shops.

The birth of Gunuko

Gunuko

So things have died down a bit since the con and now its time to really think of whats next. I have decided the first thing on the list is to finally finish the monsterbot Gunuko. Many might have seen him lurking in the back of the booth, that however was only him naked. Now its time to start adding the bulk of him including armour and weapons and of course his Trusty controller.

The Singapore Toy Con!

I have to say that this was a fantastic experience. This being my first ever public appearance I was very happy with the feedback I got on my work and it has inspired me to follow this route and hopefully at the next convention I may have some real toys for sale! This time i had a few things for sale, the books turned out to be the best sellers, with 30 books on sale I was sold out after the first public day which was great!

Books and stickers

I have learnt a hell of a lot in the few days I was there, two things in particular. 1. I need booth babes to help out on the next one and 2. I need a photographer as there were so many chances of great photos that I missed out on. There were some serious looking cosplay folks around!

With the very little time I had to walk around (between smoke breaks) I managed to meet some really great people. Firstly was great to see the Toysrevil stand and have a quick chat with Andy, I only wish I had some more time to see the events they had on, hopefully next time I can get more me time to mingle. It was great to also finally meet some artists I had known for some time through the interweb, particularly the folks from Studio Aiko and Zylostudio, you guys really rock! I hope to meet you all again soon :)

Overall, it really was a great experience and I hope to be there again next year with a few tricks up my sleeve. Thanks to all that came down and visited and thanks to all who have signed up to the mailing list at the event. I look forward to taking this further and seeing where it goes, there were so many people taking photos it will be great to see if I can find them online somewhere! Grumpits are unusual. They have evolved into using electricity in their lives, however, some problems still persist as they have weak bladders due to the constant shocks they get.

Insectle is a mutant. Spliced with a bit of this and that. He has the ability to control plant roots which he uses for defense against big hungry things.

Bunny Muncher

Bunny Muncher will sneak near a burrow and then keep really still. The bunnies will then come out and hang around this "tree" which in turn makes a meal out of the stupid things.

Pinki is so innocent. He loves bubblegum, gumboots and happy things.

All my characters have quite a dark side to them so I thought I would do a quick little sketch on the other side of the scale. I mean a pink cute rabbit, how low can you go!

Clay, Clay, Clay

One of the things I do that keeps me inspired is to make characters out of clay. They always end up getting dusty and eventually they get binned. I am trying to think of ways in which I can use them for a greater good, potentially even to sell them off. One of the reasons to start this blog is to at least get them off my desk and release them into the world. Watch this space, lots of them will be appearing in the coming years.

Recessionist

The Recessionist was created by the greed of few. It has eyes everywhere and nothing escapes its fury. There have been cases where a Recessionist has mutated into a Depressionist, a far scarier beast.

Spyder Crab

Spyder Crab.

This is probably the scariest thing that "visits" my back yard. The Spyder Crab lives in the sea but hunts on the land. They come out at night in their thousands looking for something to stick to their net of doom.

Wumble

Wumble.

Wumble's live in trees. They are extremely lazy. A Wumble spends its life eating tree bark and sleeping. At certain times in the year, some trees are torn apart due to hundreds of Wombles gathering together to find a mate.

Ferret

Ferret.

A Ferret can get into any house. They are scavengers that will try any route possible for a chance at a meal. They are just plain trouble. However, due to their ability and their wiry fur, they make ideal pipe cleaners. If you have a blocked pipe, send a Ferret down the pipe and wait a few hours.

Grabbit

Grabbit.

Grabbits eat insects. They have a weird mandable that sticks out their forehead with a glowing bulb on the end. This glowing bulb attracts all sorts of delicious trinkets. Grabbits also smell really bad to help attract insects to them. Sometimes they will sit for days on end waiting for the perfect feast.

Sheepish

Sheepish.

Everyone has a Sheepish tied to a poll in their back yard. They have the most comfy wool, each month a Sheepish will shed its skin and that makes for great rugs and coats. They also can be milked for the really sweet juice. Sheepish have evolved to have six legs, this has increased their eating as they can now hold the next bite in their hand.

Fluff Worm

Fluff Worm.

Fluff Worms are often hunted, not for food but as pets. These fluffy things have a unique side of them that makes them so popular. At night, a Fluff Worm will start its happy little song and soon you will fall asleep. However, once one has been in a cage for too long its song starts to get really depressing. This often results in nightmares and sleepless nights. A Fluff Worm generally stays happy for about two months. (Depending on how you treat it.)

Fizzly Pops

Often mistaken for Chrimps, Fizzly Pops are very bitter in taste and bring on sever nausea when eaten. Next time you see a delicious Chrimp make sure it does not have 3 eyes else you will spend days regretting that you ate a Fizzly Pop by mistake.
